Sleepless on the eve of 10th anniversary of Dome Reopening

I have watched the Timeline: Rebirth in New Orleans special as well as The Saints are Coming special and my reaction to both was the same: emotional, teary, even more respect for all the details and events leading up to the reopening of the Dome and all those involved in the process. There has never been a more concerted effort on the part of so many organizations and individuals, including the undying faithful of the Who Dat Nation to bring about such a momentous event at a time in history that will forever be remembered by even those of us who were not there but who are moved by the same emotions albeit from afar. The Dome reopening on September 25, 2006 was an historical event that brought to the forefront and attention of not only the entire nation, but also the world, the plight and suffering of New Orleans as a city and the enduring hope of her rebirth and legacy as seen through the eyes of her people and her beloved football team the Saints.

Tomorrow night will be the 10th anniversary of that magical Dome reopening. I am hoping for a rebirth of the team tomorrow night. I am hoping for the same energy and enthusiasm that filled the Superdome and rocked the nation as nothing and nobody could hope to deny the Saints and New Orleans victory over arch rival and nemesis Atlanta Falcons.

This team is certainly not at all the team that played in the Dome that fateful night in 2006. This team has more youth than veteran presence and has been plagued by unimaginable injuries to some of its key players. But this team has a spark to it. There is something lying there just beneath the surface that has yet to be tapped. Something that I am hoping will break loose with a fury tomorrow night at the Dome. Something that will show everyone that even though the Saints are down you better not count them out. Maybe that magic can repeat itself. Or maybe it will be the beginning of a new kind of magic or mojo.

I talk about mojo and it means something that transcends logic and understanding. It is something that goes beyond the stats and glitz of the world of pro football. It is a mindset and a determination that can propel and carry a beleaguered underdog to heights that can only be envisioned and imagined. If that is magic, so be it. I believe it can happen and I believe it is so close it might shock some.

I am waiting with bated breath to see what history will unfold at the Superdome tomorrow night. The Saints are coming. The Falcons are looking to make history of their own. These games are usually very close and many times will come down to a last second field goal. Knowing that there is the prospect of grabbing 1st place in the division is going to bring an element of even more drama. Which team wants it more? I am hoping it is my team. I am hoping the Saints will send the dirty birds packing and come out of it as 1st place victors despite an 0-2 start.

Who Dat! Geaux Saints!!!
