No CBA yet but look at our team and its leaders!

Starting with none other than the incomparable leadership of Drew Brees, it becomes increasingly clearer with each article I'm reading about this New Orleans Saints team that they are serious about making the best out of a situation that would cause a team less committed to sit on the sidelines and wait it out. Not this team.

What kind of player would travel from any distance, much less another state, to participate in voluntary workouts at the behest of their QB... when they don't even have the assurance of a contract with the team when the season finally does get under way?

What kind of player would participate in said voluntary workouts even though he's still rehabbing from an injury or surgery to repair an injury?

What kind of player would put up his own hard-earned money to ensure that those who want to participate but can't afford it can still do so?

These are none other than our own beloved New Orleans Saints. We and they do not know if all who are participating (an impressive number of 37 participated yesterday and more are expected today) will even be on the team's roster when it comes time to play the 2011 season.

Yet, they are investing their own personal time to come together as teammates (I believe it was Malcolm Jenkins who said, "We are family" and he wasn't quoting lyrics from Sister Sledge)... time to regroup and bond again... time to gel together as a team. This is the mark of a truly great team led by truly great leaders.

As each day goes by and the CBA has yet to be agreed upon, players and fans grow increasingly antsy and nervous. Instead of just letting the time pass them by, a large contingent of our great team is putting the time to very good, practical and wise use. What could be better?

In my last blog entitled "Anticipation" I wrote of the rebirth in my heart of hope and anticipation of the season to come. That was before the draft. Now that we have witnessed the skillful and shrewd draft prowess of Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton (along with the skills of Rick Reiprish and his scouting staff), I am bursting at the seams to see how Payton, Williams and the other coaches will use the talent we've picked up. What an amazing draft!

Cameron Jordan, Mark Ingram, Martez Wilson, Johnny Patrick, Greg Romeus and Nate Bussey have become the latest to join the ranks of this amazing group of players. Gregg Williams and Sean Payton are salivating at the chance to begin shaping these young men into the players they have the potential to be as Saints.

I am salivating at the prospect of watching it all unfold. The drama is just beginning, folks. Look out world, the Saints are coming. Again.

Who Dat! GEAUX SAINTS!
