There is a thread posted called "First Thread on SaintsReport" that caught my eye tonight:

One of the longtime members at SR.com is the OP, hicksi:

Site owner Andrus posted a great link:

Thanks for the link, Andrus! I have enjoyed reading some threads but my favorites by far were in the Best of the Forum forum.

I'd say #1 for me was the Hammer & Nails project with video. Seeing Alex on the video brought tears to my eyes. I didn't know him but it is easy to see why all who did really loved him.

#2 was "Katrina, my family's story" by st dude. That one really made me cry.

I've been a member of SR.com nearly 3 years and in all that time I don't believe I've seen anything like those two threads.

There are also a lot of members from that time period (2003-2006) who don't seem to be active on the boards anymore. That makes me sad.

I, for one, would really welcome more of these kinds of threads. I'm sure those who have been here much longer than I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I hope that these wonderfully gifted writers will write more for us to read and I hope that the general "family" feel of SR.com never dies.

That was one of the qualities that drew me to this place when I found it. Here is a place where anyone can come and be a part of the discussions. I was really happy to see that there were more than a few female members since a lot of sports fans sites don't seem to be female-friendly. SR.com has proven to be a great place for us women Who Dats to get the latest news about our Saints and post a thread or a comment here or there on a thread... usually without any trash talk just because we are women. That means a lot to me.

With the 2009 Super Bowl season there was a boom in membership here and lots of new members were popping up, starting threads, posting comments, keeping things hopping.

Last season it was also very busy and Andrus and the mods did a great job handling the traffic, which was outrageously heavy at times. Andrus upgraded the server and for those of us who are subscribing members, we got the "bypass the server is busy message" which meant that we were free to browse the forums and post with relative ease; versus having to wait an eternity while the page was loading because the server was packed with folks wanting to get in on multiple threads being posted simultaneously. Wow, it hurts my head just thinking about it! :hihi:

But, I digress. My hat is off to Andrus and the mods, and all the tech support folks who make this site a pleasure to visit every day. The hours upon hours they put in to keep SR.com up and running are mind-boggling to me.

I hope that this website will continue to grow and I also hope that the longtime members who have been a part of this place long before most of us will keep posting. Folks like hicksi have a lot of history they could share with those of us who are relative newcomers. I hope that others will take the time to share some of what they have experienced as members through the years.

It's more than tradition. It's a legacy that I hope will be passed on to the next generation. It would be interesting to find out what the median age of members is. It seems that there is a large contingent of young members who post regularly (20-30). Trust me, that's young. :hihi:

I'd love to see more posts and threads by the above 40 crowd here. I didn't want to say "older" because that conjures up visions of "codgers." :covri:

Merriam Webster defines codger as "an often mildly eccentric and usually elderly fellow." Listen, youth and old age aren't really that far apart when it comes to love for a team.

What I am saying is that I am sure there are many 40+ members on this site that rarely post, much less dare start a thread. I would like to encourage the longtime members of SR.com who know its history and would like to share some of it to simply do so.

I don't know where the appropriate forum would be to post it but I would hope that this sort of sharing would be welcome on the SSF and not be relegated to the Everything Else forum. The majority of members tend to browse the SSF and not the EE forum so most of us would miss out on some great stories.

It is great to have separate forums for topics other than the Saints, but am I wrong in presuming that the primary reason we are all here is that we love the Saints? And isn't that common bond what brought about SR.com in the first place? I hope that the future of SR.com will include welcoming threads by those who have been here maybe even since its inception... threads and posts that share its history and its story. And I hope that those threads will be prominently displayed on SSF for all of us to see.

Paging stdude the Dotless one... and anyone else so inclined.

Any takers?
